  • More Sport...

Sat 18 Nov 2017 Mrs Hobbs

Another busy week of sports continued last week when Y5/6 played the second of their cup group match at Ashby Hilltop. We were away for this match and they all played brilliantly. The final result was 1-1 in a very close match. The team worked well together and respected each other, their opposition and the referees decisions- fitting well with our RESPECT week in school.

Their final match is this Tuesday (21st) which is a match they will play at home. Keep your eyes posted for more results...

Saturday also saw more action at Cross-Country at Broom-Leys school. It was another cold but dry and bright morning and 7 of our children took to the field and ran their hearts out. Several of our runners finished in the top 10 or bettered their positions from previous races. On a tough course, they ran really well and should be very proud of themselves. Well done. Don't forget cross-country club is Wednesday lunchtime with Mrs Hobbs and the next race is Saturday 2nd December at Viscount Beaumont School.

  • African Drumming

    Thu 16 Nov 2017 K.Hambleton

We do love variety in our school and we enjoy providing the children with a varied and rich curriculum! So this week we have had African Drumming...which the children absolutely loved. It was fantastic to see them trying out different techniques, learning about the instruments and putting it altogether to create a musical masterpiece!

  • Respect Week

    Thu 16 Nov 2017 K.Hambleton
The children and staff are spending much time this week considering how we as a school community and as individuals can contribute positively to society through the choices we make, our behaviour and actions. As a school we value our 'Together We Try' motto and the children are becoming very good at talking about character strengths and which they need to draw on at different times and this is a regular part of our assemblies, celebrations and day to day school life. The week began by Years 1 to 4 taking part in a 'Blast off' workshop, a creative workshop that allowed children to explore anti-bullying scenarios, the reasons behind anti-social behaviour , its impact on others and ways to reach a resolution. Although a serious message... it did look fun! A number of children (and staff) have taken part in celebrating the 'we are all different, we are equal' message by wearing odd socks to school and lots have activities have gone on during the week. Year 6 for example, have been writing persuasive letters to parents and residents with regards to showing respect when parking and driving near our school, have designed their own graffiti art with a positive message and have even practiced self-regulation with a sweet activity! There is plenty more to share with you in a later post! #respect #team work #empathy #honesty #social understanding
  • Remembrance

    Thu 16 Nov 2017 K.Hambleton
As a school we think it is important that our pupils learn about the world, society and historical events, including people who have given so much to our country and are willing to put others before themselves. Every year the pupils learn about, discuss and show respect for those who gave to the war effort and these photographs really do show the respect the children showed. #empathy  #respect
  • A busy week of sports!!!!

Wed 08 Nov 2017 Mrs Hobbs

Wow this week has been hugely busy and it's only Wednesday.

    Cross Country:

Saturday saw 7 children, from across the whole school, turn out to the soggy cross-country field at an event hosted by Packington. We had children from the first event to the last. They all ran superbly and had great fun splashing in the mud.(Official results to follow.)

It would be great to see more of you out there representing the school at these events. They really are fun. Next event is at Broom Leys (Coalville) on Saturday 18th Nov- 10am start.

    Football:

Tuesday saw the new football kit make it's first appearance and team morale was very high. Everyone was enthusiastic and keen to get involved despite the rain- yes more rain!!! The team worked well together, switching in and out as we took advantage of being able to use rolling subs. We had some great play and were praised very highly by our opposition, saying how close a match it was and how well the children all played. Well done to Freya and Hagen who had special mentions as 'both being fab in goal'. The whole team played so well in the conditions but unfortunately we lost 3-1 to Ellistown. Well done!

Onwards and upwards to our next match next week away at Hilltop.

    Sportshall (Indoor) Athletics:

Finally, Wednesday has seen a group of 11 children from Y5/6 take part in a sportshall athletics competition. A great fun session where they children all took part in a mixture of running and 'field' events. They competed in events such as: obstacle relays, over and under relays, 1 lap races, standing long jump and vertical jump, to name a few. Well done again to everyone taking part.

Please let me know if there are any competitions you would like to take part in and I will see what else we can get involved in.

  • Key Stage 1 den building day!

    Tue 07 Nov 2017 K.Hambleton
What a fantastic experience the children and parents have had today in our very own 'Woodland' area! The children used many character strengths to be successful in their venture of building a shelter that would protect them from the elements. They created furniture, fires, bedding, door bells....the works! #teamwork #communication #problem solving #listening #resilience
  • Home learning

    Mon 06 Nov 2017 K.Hambleton
At Moira we hope that our home learning activities not only consolidate skills and allow pupils to apply what they know but also provide opportunities for the children to lead their own learning and by creative. Year 3 certainly have done that! Look at the wonderful models that they have made about Stone Age homes....and if you have a child in Year 3, ask them about the different periods and what they know!
  • Harvest time!

    Mon 06 Nov 2017 K. Hambleton
Harvest is a very special time of the year for our children and parents. We thoroughly enjoy the songs, poems, stories and pictures and in particular sharing it with the parents and community. Support is always wonderful topped by the many kind donations that we can send in to the local area .
