Developing emotionally healthy pupils is a valued part of our ethos here at Moira. Well tailored PSHE, assemblies, enrichment activities, nurture, meditation, mile a day and our lunch club are just a few ways we tailor our curriculum to ensure personal development is embedded. Here are a few lunch club photographs and work from our well-being week. #worth it

  • Junior Speaks

Mon 18 Mar 2019 Karen Hambleton
Moira Primary School was invited to take part in the Rotary ‘Junior Speak’ event.  This event provides an opportunity for primary school children to speak about a subject of their own choice.  This year Sam from our Year 6 class took part.  He spoke about his cycle journey from London to Paris when he was just 8 years old, raising over £1000 for Armed Forces families and Gold September, a charity set up in memory of his friend from his old school who died from cancer.  Well done Sam!

This week is Science Week. A visitor came to school to school and helped us become forensic scientists. We looked at the clues and solved the crimes.  Reception also looked at the journey of cocoa beans from Africa to the local shop, then melted chocolate, discussing the changes and made chocolate cornflake cakes

  • What would I see on a Kenyan safari?

    Tue 05 Mar 2019 K. Hambleton
Our Reception topic this half term has been ‘What would I see on a Kenyan Safari?'. The children learnt about Africa, about towns and the countryside and going to school. They observed the weather here to compare to Kenya. The children explored colour mixing and hot colours to make an African sunset piece of art. We learnt African songs with Mrs Burgess. Today they tasted African fruits and then read our new book 'Handa's surprise'.
  • Inspiring, creative, diverse... that is our Moira curriculum!

    Tue 05 Mar 2019 K.Hambleton
This year we have completely re-designed our curriculum to bring some fresh and exciting topics developing our pupils key-skills while securing knowledge. The children live to be submerged in topic week and gain much excitement from our Big Question approach where they can then develop their own Little Questions to guide the learning in whichever way they choose. Take a look...
  • It is all about the skills!

    Tue 05 Mar 2019 K. Hambleton
We are very lucky at Moira to have some wonderful resources right on our doorstep! Not only do we have our own woodland area where children and staff can deliver Forest School curriculum but also can combine this with activities at our local Forest School provision just a wander down the road! This allows the children to develop skills that will stay with them for life and experience and develop a love of the outdoor world that is so often missing in today’s society. On top of that Mrs Bourne our trained Forest School teacher has some plans for developing our Forest School provision on site and we have had the pleasure of Mr E working with Team 6... an activity they loved! #zest #problemsolving #teamwork
