Curriculum Maestro and History
From September 2021, we are using Curriculum Maestro for our History scheme. We have decided to use this scheme in order to equip our children with the necessary skills and knowledge so that they are ready for their next steps in education.
History at Moira Primary School
How History is organised at Moira?
We teach our children about history through our topic planning. Our curriculum is organised into three topic blocks each year. These either have a historical or geographical focus. As children move through each phase of our school; KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2, they will have access to a clear progression of historical knowledge and skills.
How do we make sure that all children have historical knowledge?
Our curriculum builds carefully upon children's prior understanding and ensures that there are opportunities for children to use their previous historical learning as they move through our school.
We use knowledge organisers to help children to build their historical vocabulary.

How do we teach children about chronology (the sequence in time of historical events)?
Children refer to events within a timeline and have opportunities to revisit this learning as they move from topic to topic and year to year. They also meet chronology through their assembly and wider curriculum studies.
How do we assess in History?
We use teacher assessment to gauge children's attainment in history.
How can parents help their children to learn more about History?
There are lots of resources that can help parents to investigate history with their children.
