Curriculum Maestro and Art
From September 2021, we are using Curriculum Maestro for our Art scheme. We have decided to use this scheme in order to equip our children with the necessary skills and knowledge so that they are ready for their next steps in education.
Art at Moira Primary School
How Art is organised at Moira?
We teach our children about Art through our topic planning. Our curriculum is organised into three topic blocks each year. These have either a Historical or Geographical focus. The units of Art link to each topic where they can.
How do we make sure that all children have artistic/ creative knowledge?
Our curriculum builds carefully upon children's prior understanding and ensures that there are opportunities for children to use their previous artistic/ creative learning as they move through our school.
We use sketch books to show how each child has progressed with their art. These books follow the children as they move across the school.
We use knowledge organisers to help children to build their artistic/creative vocabulary.

How do we teach children about creativity?
Children have lots of opportunities to develop their creative skills. In addition to our Art curriculum, we engage with Spark Arts and City Classroom to support our children in accessing a wide range of creative activities; including working with visiting artists and other creative professionals.
How do we assess in Art?
We use teacher assessment to gauge children's attainment in Art.
How can parents help their children to learn more about Art?
There are lots of resources that can help parents to investigate Art and Art History with their children.
