Curriculum Maestro and Geography

From September 2021, we are using Curriculum Maestro for our Geography scheme. We have decided to use this scheme in order to equip our children with the necessary skills and knowledge so that they are ready for their next steps in education.

The document below gives you a brief overview of the geographical journey that your child will take at Moira.

Geography at Moira Primary School

How is Geography organised at Moira?

We teach our children about geography through our topic planning. Our curriculum is organised into three topic blocks each year. These either have a historical or geographical focus. As children move through each phase of our school; KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2, they will have access to a clear progression of geographical knowledge and skills.

How do we make sure that all children have geographical knowledge?

Our curriculum builds carefully upon children's prior understanding and ensures that there are opportunities for children to use their previous geographical learning as they move through our school.

We use knowledge organisers to help children to build their historical vocabulary.

How do we teach children about their local geography ?

Children have the opportunity to look at local geography through fieldwork visits and residential trips across KS1 and KS2.

How do we assess in Geography?

We use teacher assessment to gauge children's attainment in geography.

How can parents help their children to learn more about Geography?

There are lots of resources that can help parents to investigate geography with their children.
