Governor Information

The Role of School Governors

The governors of Moira Primary School are a strategic part of the leadership of the school with three core functions:

To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

To hold the senior leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils; and the effective and efficient performance management of staff

To oversee the financial performance of the school and to make sure that its money is well spent.

The governing board ensures that there is:

a rigorous culture of safeguarding
compliance with legislative requirements, for example, those of the Equality Act, 2010 and in relation to the ‘Prevent’ duty

The other duties of the governing board are:

to hear and take into account the views of all stakeholders
to support the development of policy on the school’s curriculum and collective worship
to set standards for the behaviour of all pupils
to make sure the school buildings are welcoming and safe
to review the school’s policies and procedures
to commit to self-review, development and improvement.
